thehood is Robin Kuhlmann. Independent game developer and 3D artist from Bremen, Germany. Born in 1987.
Hi, my name is Robin. I’ve always been interested in video games and digital art. In my teens I built maps using the editors of Half-Life, GTA2, Warcraft 3, tried out 3Ds Max, recorded music, made websites and flash movies on my computer and together with my friends. After school and a year working at a kindergarten I decided to study digital media at the University of Bremen. In 2010, during my outgoing semester at The Art Institute of Boston, I attended a game design class where I first heard of the UDK, the Unreal Development Kit. Back in Bremen my roommate and I experimented with the UDK and then decided to do a game as our Bachelor Thesis. We learned a lot during this project that became a game called MORI that uses a brain computer interface as additional input modality and got us our Bachelor degree. After that
In 2012 I did an internship at the game development studio KING Art where I worked with 3Ds Max again. But this time there were professionals around me and that really pushed my modeling skills. I did another internship at Polygonfabrik but after that I didn't really know where to go next. I wrote a ton of job applications, tried out different jobs but nothing felt right to me. So I decided to write a business plan and to start working on my own projects. I'm now self-employed since May 2014. We'll see where it leads me...
